


Open Incubator is a start-up platform that supports third-level student entrepreneurs across the island of Ireland to build and share their ideas and grow new enterprise opportunities. They required a strong brand identity to attract new members and secure buy-in from key stakeholders in the education sector. This brand identity required detailed brand guidelines and a suite of assets to help them effectively promote their brand purpose.
Custodian was tasked with the development of a full brand identity for Open Incubator, including a tagline, tone of voice, brand assets, and a comprehensive brand guidelines document.
Additionally, we were responsible for the design and animation of a promotional video that would communicate Open Incubator’s story and brand purpose.
Our design approach was inspired by the existing Open Incubator Logo, created by the Open Incubator founders. We expanded on the symbol within the logo to create dynamic framing devices, iconography and a distinctive brand pattern.
For the promotional video, our new iconography inspired a playful and engaging animation style, designed to resonate with third-level students and reflect the brand’s ethos of making entrepreneurship more accessible and approachable.
Working collaboratively with the client, Custodian delivered a cohesive and impactful brand identity by:
Defining brand values that shaped the tone of voice and guided the tagline development process.
Writing a tagline that effectively targeted the intended audience, capturing the brand’s identity while also being memorable.
Utilising the existing logo to develop a complementary colour palette that mirrored the brand’s personality and appealed to the target audience.
Designing iconography, brand patterns, and a consistent photography style, all of which were incorporated into the brand guidelines.
Throughout the project, regular meetings with the client ensured their satisfaction with each element of the brand identity. We also provided mock-ups to help the client envision their brand in situ before launch.
The final phase of the project involved the creation of a promotional video. The client provided a script which we edited and refined for clarity and impact. Once approved, our motion design team developed a storyboard and style sheet as reference for the client. We sourced a voice-over artist and designed and animated the video, ensuring it met the brand’s objectives of raising awareness and attracting new customers.
The completed project provided Open Incubator with an in-depth brand identity and comprehensive guidelines that can be easily shared with all employees and stakeholders and will ensure consistency across all branded materials.
The client was highly satisfied with the result and the guidelines have been successfully used to roll out new design assets, across online channels and at in-person events.
